Wetlands

North Star BlueScope Steel LLC is committed to the preservation of our environment. It is our environmental policy to provide continuous improvement of our Environmental Management Systems and to constantly monitor our environmental performance. We will prevent pollution by improving our processes and complying with all relevant environmental and regulatory requirements. Annually, we will set environmental targets and review our performance towards achieving these goals to minimize our overall environmental footprint. We will also share information regarding our environmental performance with the community.

One of the cornerstones in our commitment towards preserving the environment is our Wetlands. The Wetlands were constructed in 1995 to replace the 3.1 acres of low quality wetlands damaged during construction of the mill facility. Over 200 fourth and fifth graders from the Delta schools participate in our Annual Wetlands Day. The students rotate through ten learning stations during the full day event. A variety of organizations including the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources partner with North Star BlueScope Steel LLC in presenting this learning experience for students.

Boardwalks extend to the observation decks in the Wetlands. These decks are popular spots for observing the vegetation and the many animals; such as muskrats, raccoon, deer, geese, and ducks; that call the Wetlands their home. The observation decks also help to discourage visitors from stepping off into the fragile ecosystems.

It is the goal of North Star BlueScope Steel LLC to protect the environment we live and work in for future generations.
